About Us
History of the Club
The Bendigo 4WD Club was formed in 1981 after half a dozen men and women who regularly travelled to 4WD meetings in Melbourne, wanted a club closer to home. There was an obvious need for such a club in Bendigo and membership soon grew to over 20.
The club caters for singles, couples and families who enjoy the outdoors, camping, touring, four wheel driving and visiting the more remote and interesting area of our country.
We are based in Bendigo, Central Victoria however we have members from all over the state. The Club now has been in existence for nearly 40 years, and though times and fashions have changed, the basic needs for the Club; great companionship, safety, training, a love of camping and the outdoors, along with a good sense of adventure, remain the same.
What we do
The Club has always been family orientated, with a wide variety of trips to cater for all levels of driver capabilities from beginner to advanced. The advantage of being in a club is that you get to call on years of experience to help you through various situations.
Members enjoy a variety of driving experiences from the soft sandy beaches of the coastal areas to the high country mountain trails, not forgetting the harsh roads of the outback country.
The Bendigo 4WD Club participates in a wide range of different activities such as:
- Regular trips the Victorian High Country, Mallee deserts and annual snow trips;
- Trips to local attractions, places of interest and local characters such as the Spanner Man in Boort.
- Interstate locations such as Robe, Flinders Ranges, Cape York and outback Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.
- Accredited Driver Training courses.
- Recovery training including tips and techniques for a safe trip.
- Social events both local and further afield.
Social Events
Along with our trips, the club holds regular social events. These are a fantastic opportunity for members to socialise and get to know each other as well as swap stories of 4wd trips and share camping knowledge.
Community Contribution
The club also involves itself in community activities and environmental conservation from time to time including;
- Track clearing – assisting land managers by inspecting and maintaining tracks
- Camp Host – promoting responsible camping to the public
- BlazeAid - clearing fencing after the floods around Charlton
- Removing boneseed within the township of Tarnagulla
